Paul Cannell (born 2 September 1953 in Newcastle upon Tyne) is an English former footballer who played as a forward for Newcastle United between 1972 and 1978. He made 62 appearances and scored 18 goals, before moving to the United States. Cannell was a substitute for the 1976 League Cup Final, which Newcastle lost 2–1 to Manchester City.
In his career as a whole, he played for Newcastle United and Mansfield Town in the Football League,[1] three spells with the Washington Diplomats in the North American Soccer League (NASL),[2] the Memphis Rogues (also in the NASL),[2] the Detroit Express in the NASL indoor league,[3] Scottish Football League club Berwick Rangers,[1] and North Shields.
